Pakistan Accused of Match Fixing

The Pakistan national team has been entangled in a new controversy. They are being accused of match fixing to oust arch rivals India out of the limited over’s match in South Africa.

The Chairman of the NASCS (National Assembly Standing Committee for Sports) Jamshed Ahmad Dasti accused Pakistan of deliberately losing to Australia, in the limited over’s match held in South Africa, just to keep India away from the final.

New Zealand won the match against Pakistan by five wickets after, Younis Khan, the Pakistan skipper, dropped a very easy catch, in the semi-final on Saturday.

Australia had already won by 2 wickets, ensuring their place in the finals, shattering India’s hopes.

Dasti claimed that Pakistan had deliberate intentions in losing the matches against Australia and New Zealand., and a committee would soon be set up to investigate these reports.

He further added that the Standing Committee would soon summon the skipper Younis Khan, PCB manager Ejaz Butt and the coach Intekhab Alam to look into the matter.

The Ahmadabad mirror reported that the tapes of the Pakistan vs. New Zealand semi-final match are on their way to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti corruption unit offices for investigation.

While Imran Khan former skipper of Pakistan, now turned politician ruled out all possibilities of match fixing. He said that they lost due to ‘overconfidence’. Had they lost to any other team, but New Zealand, there would have been no fixing allegations or accusations.
