A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck the regions between Santa Cruz Islands and Vanuatu, today at 9:10 A.M., soon followed by consecutive shocks at 9:18 and 10:13 A.M. These were accompanied by strong aftershocks.
Although no damages or casualties have been reported as yet, the people were terrified and shocked.
The areas of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Kiribati have been put on red alert, while Australia and New Zealand have been put under Tsunami watch.
This incident occurred just after a week when a strong wave had taken 178 lives in the regions of Tonga and Samoas.
The memories of the disaster were still fresh in the minds of the people.They panicked and scrambled their way up hillsides trying to go away from the coastlines as far as possible.
The Tsunami warnings at Hawaii were cancelled as the readings of the waves were not high enough to cause any harm.
