Hollywood is bringing another drama pretty soon to the screens near you and this time Tom Cruise’s ex wife Nicole Kidman will be dressed as world’s first post-operation transsexual who gets married to Charlize Theron.
The down under tall as a sky scrapper Aussie actress will, guess what, produce and star in “The Danish Girl,” which is based on the real life story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for a female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.
When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.
It would be interesting to find out how the American conservative audience adapts to this screen adaptation. From the outset I can tell you this is more for critical acclaim and perhaps an eye on the Academy awards than on any real hope for huge profiteering from the project. But whatever.
