Leslie Owen Collier will eat with a bigger appetite this Thanksgiving for he is one of the few pardoned by the outgoing President.
Leslie Owen Collier is a farmer from Charleston, Mo. whose offense was, I kid you not, using pesticide to kill bald eagles. Leslie Owen Collier was convicted in 1996.
I think the joke writers for all the late night shows like Jay Leno are going to have a field day out of this pardon. Who would have thought killing bald eagles in this land of ours would result in conviction and then subsequent presidential pardon. Bush presidency has been like a Mad comic book for US.
A user has posted more detailed info about Mr Collier and it definitely makes sense. Mr Collier used pesticide infested meat in the hopes the coyotes would be disuaded, but the meat was ingested by a lot many other animals besides the coyotes.
This pardon was absolutely just and due. Congratulations, Mr Collier.

Leslie Owen Collier of Charleston, Mo., who pleaded guilty in 1995 to unlawfully killing three bald eagles in southeast Missouri. He improperly used pesticide in hamburger meat to kill coyotes, but ended up killing many other animals, including the bald eagles. Collier, who was convicted for unauthorized use of a pesticide and violating the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, was sentenced Feb. 2, 1996 in the Eastern District of Missouri. He had probation and was fined $10,000. So he wasn’t really “doing time” anywhere, but this will mean he is no longer considered to be a felon. Not sure what happens about the $10,000 fine. And Leslie in this case is a male.
buy a gun and shoot the coyotes like everyone else.
