NEWS BUT NOT NEWS “PAPER”

Rocky Mountain News Paper

An average American resident would start the day by checking the news of news sites like CNN.com or the official website for the LA Times. For entertainment he would prefer to log on to the related site. For getting a glance on the sensex or to know the fluctuation in the Forex market he would have his favorite sites book marketed as My Favorite on his PC. So much so that if he would be informed about a story that has happened locally as is available in the local papers, he would want to Google for the news to get hands on facts about it. This is not the story of just one average American resident; every one is giving up the readership of newspaper and switching the new era & concept of news paper reading “internet news”

The Rocky Mountain News is one of the newspapers that had to face death in front of the new style of internet news reading. This was a 150 year old newspaper legacy. There are more newspaper companies that are either closing down or are on a verge of filling bankruptcy.

In December 2008, a survey revealed that most of the Americans are more depended upon using internet as a source of news rather than the conventional news papers. The people especially in the age group below 30 are using internet. Now internet as a news source is threatening the television news as a source of international & national news. The Wall Street Journal looking at the current situation has raised a question around newspapers been given away for free. Because of which the free web model of Long Island’s Newsday is reconsidered by them.

Kelly Ann Collins, founder of the Mountain Ear newspaper in 1990’s says that he also believes that whatever he wants to know is available over the net. He further added that he doesn’t even remember when was the last time that he read the news from the news paper. He further showed his discomfort in getting out to of the threshold to reach out for the news paper when every thing he wants to know is available at a click.

This is what a person has to say who himself has founded a newspaper. Clearly, the concept of reading the newspaper is dying out and currently it is restricted with the old people. Once that generation would pass away with time, newspapers would be fossils then.
