Angels and Demons
The latest of Tom Hanks “Angels & Demons” was premiered in Rome. After the controversies that The Da Vinci Code attracted, Tom’s latest release seems to follow the same pattern with – Angels & Demons. Ayelet Zurer would be his co-actress and Ewan McGregor plays a catholic operative. Dan Brown’s novel, is the source of inspiration for the movie, the director being Ron Howard.
The movie has attracted controversies already. Vatican has some things to say against the movie. In fact, Hindu’s in India have criticized “Angels & Demons” as well. They have accused the move to have showed a wrong and disturbing aspect of mercantile greed, which was just not required.
Rajan Zed, president of Universal Society of Hinduism, made a statement against the movie in Nevada, USA. As per him, the film makers should be very cautious of what they are putting together in a film. He said that movies is too strong a medium and if wrong messages are sent it would result creating stereotype stuff which is of no relevance, in the mind of the audiences. Further, he added that it was a belittle attempt to hurt and play with the sentiments of the devotees. He said that he is for the movies that entertain rather than those movies that create friction in the society.
Zed, was asked that why he was commenting for the movie as the Vatican is doing the required. The reason Zed gave, despite not being associated with the Roman Catholic Church in any way was, that everyone believe in the Almighty, in some form or the other. Despite being from a different tradition, he believes that there should be some king of mutual trust & loyalty. He addressed every one as the “fellow seekers of the Ultimate Reality”. And considering that he added that may be the tradition differences are prominent at the surface but somewhere they all were walking in the same direction. He said that God’s benevolence and munificence was a symbol that has been acknowledged by different faiths.
Further, he suggested that the movie should get the R rating instead of PG 13 by the Motion Picture Association of America. He insisted on considering to insert declaimers is bold stating that the movie is noting but a fiction work. He asked such a disclaimer at the beginning and towards the end of the movie as well, reminding the audience again that it has no resemblance to the actual truth.
