It was the 28th of June 2009. A tearful Janet stood on the stage at the 2009 BET Awards to pay homage to her brother MJ, who had left so suddenly, leaving the whole world shocked.

She took the mike and said, “My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful, so they elected me to be here to speak with you. To you Michael was an icon. to us, Michael is family and he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, and for all your support. We miss him so much.”

And as she spoke the crowd came to a halt.

In her first interview after her brother’s death she told Harper’s Bazaar Magazine that she had stopped watching television after her brother’s death. The coverage she said “will drive you crazy.”

In the same interview she revealed that she had met her brother just six weeks before his death. “We had so much fun that day; we kept calling each other after and saying how great it was.”

And now Janet Jackson is all set to give her first full length interview to US network, since her brother’s death.

It will be the first time that the press and media will be allowed at her residence at California.

The programme host will be Robin Roberts of Good Morning America, from the ABC News. The hour long programme which is not yet recorded will be telecast on the 18th of November in US.

Rihanna Assaulted!

Rihanna the ‘umbrella’ singer had been assaulted by her ex- boyfriend Chris Brown. He had beaten her very brutally, for which he was sentenced to five years probation.

Rihanna was being interviewed on US TV, when she admitted that her reconciliation with her boyfriend had been the most embarrassing decision of her life.

She realized that it had been very foolish on her part to try to reconcile after that harrowing experience as any girl following her footsteps can get herself killed.

While Chris on the other hand has been apologizing to his fans for his behavior.

MTV shall interview him to give the people his side of the story.

Rihanna has been insistent that her decision to go back to Brown was because she had loved him unconditionally, but she had realized in time that it was not a wise decision because that she did not intend sending that message to her fans.

The wide publicity that this incident had given her had deprived her of the little privacy that she had otherwise enjoyed.

This publicity had been hard on her as it had exhibited those personal moments of her life which no one likes to share with others.

Anthem For 26/11

On November 2008, the world was shocked and Mumbai aghast as the terrorists went on a rampage. The scars are fresh, and the memories still alive. Scores of people laid down their lives, Mumbai still writhes in the agony.On November 26th 2009, Mumbai will reverberate, not with gunshots but with sounds of compassion. 15 prominent singers of Bollywood, along with Amitabh Bacchan, will join for a special anthem for Mumbaikars.

The Anthem which has been initiated by the Mumbai police will be led by Sonu Nigam. The galaxy of singers, besides Amitabh Bacchan are Shaan, Kailash Kher, Roop Kumar Rathod, Hariharan, Jagjit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz,Alka Yagnik, Mahalaxmi , Kunal Ganjawala and Richa Sharma.

Sonu Nigam in conversation with HT City said, “I can’t tell you how special this anthem is for all of us. Since we feel collectively for the cause and respect each other, the end product is even better then we expected it to be.”

The anthem will be accompanied by a special video that will be shot at the venue.

The verse, “Ungli uthe to, koi badhe to, kar degi baghawat Mumbai” (if one tries to raise a finger, or if he comes in our way, Mumbai will retaliate) stands for communal harmony and unity.

Brimming with Patriotic fervor, this is a multi-lingual song with verses in Hindi, English and Marathi. This song will linger in one’s memory for years to come.

Hemant Brijwasi- The Li’l Champ

The third season for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs began on 5th of June, 2009. This popular Zee TV reality show kicked off with 12 participants, 6 boys and 6 girls, with a unique theme- Jeetenge World, Boys Ya Girls.

Had it not been for programmes like Sa re ga ma we could have never realized the potential of our young talent. This popular, TV reality show has given all music lovers, three new gems.

Hemant Brijwasi, the little champ from Mathura, captured the first position.

He got an awesome response of 15 lakhs, 35 thousand and 80 votes from the viewers. The second in line was Yatharth Ratnam Rastogi and Shreyasi Bhattacharya clinched the third place.

The event was hosted by all time favorite Shaan, at the Andheri Sports Complex Mumbai. Salman Khan who announced the results was the added attraction, along with Ajay Devgan and Asin Thottumkal who also graced the occasion and inspired the young talent. This public appearance was also to promote their new release ‘London Dreams.’

Abhijit Bhattacharya and Alka Yagnik were the judges for the show.

Lil Wayne May Go Behind Bars

Dwayne Michael Carter, better known as Lil Wayne the American rapper and Grammy Award Winner pleaded guilty for criminal possession of a weapon for which he might be sentenced to one year jail.

Lil Dwayne once mentioned on a TV News channel that he enjoyed Marijuana. He has often been arrested for possessing drugs. He belongs to that gang of rappers, who believe in maintaining hefty criminal records to build up their street credit.

On July 22 2007, as they were returning after a performance at the Beacon Theatre, the NYPD caught Lil Wayne and a friend of his smoking marijuana. They were immediately taken into custody, soon after that the police also found a loaded.40-caliber semi-automatic in his possession. He was arrested for two offences simultaneously.

All this time he had been pleading non guilty but now has changed his version. By doing this he has avoided a trial which was to be held in January 2010 wherein proved guilty he would have to serve three to three and a half years in prison.

He has now pleaded guilty for possessing a weapon for which he might get a year.

According DJ Khaled, “He’s a brother and he’s helped so many people. He’s helped so many people, the public, [his] city. Musically, he’s helped other artists. He’s just a great person on the whole.”

If that is the case then, his goodness may reduce his sentence from I year to 8 to 10 months.

As of now he is on bail, and his fans are waiting for his new hip hop LP and much delayed album, Rebirth .

Dancing With The Stars- A Tribute to MJ

A glorious tribute was paid to Michael Jackson on the show,’ Dancing with the stars.’

There could have possibly not been a better place than this dance show, to honor MJ, as in the four year history of the show; contestants had danced 17 times on his dance numbers. He, according to pro dancer Louis Amstel “had pretty much opened the doors,”for all the dance lovers.

Mark Ballas who’s treaded several times on MJ’s songs, said, “It just felt so great to dance to MJ songs and feel his moves. He’s just an inspiration to all of us. He will be missed.”

And then came the moment, the crowd had been looking forward to. As MJ’s family members seated in the audience watched, the show’s professional dancers, taking off some time from their busy practice schedules, took the stage to pay a glorious ballroom tribute to Michael Jackson, the great Icon.

Karina Smirnoff another dancer said on the show, “His influence was far-reaching. He influenced not only dancing itself, but choreography. We lost not only an icon, but we lost the father of dance and choreography.”

As the dances began, the dancers dressed up in his garb, started off with, “I Want You Back.” Then followed “Man in the Mirror”, at a slower pace, performed as a ballroom dance combined with a ballet. “Thriller”, was the most iconic moment when the dancers enacted the famous zombie dance.

MJ has been a great influence and a great inspiration to all his fans.

Posthumous Awards for MJ.

Michael Jackson has been nominated for five American Music Awards, posthumously this year, the other nominees being Kings of Leon, Lady Gag, Taylor Swift, and Eminem.

He had also been nominated in the favorite male artist category, but Swift was ahead with 6 nominations.

The winners will be announced on 22nd November at a glittering ceremony. It will be telecast by America’s ABC network.

Online voting will determine the awards, while a measurement combing and radio airplay will select the nominees.

MJ, is the only artist to have received 20 American Music Awards along with an Award for the artist of the century.

He was honored in 2001 as a solo artist in the US Rock and Roll hall of fame. He is also the winner of 13 Grammy Awards.

The Moonwalk with Billie Jean won him an Emmy Award. It was impossible but he practiced it hard perfected it and caught the fancy of the world.

He died at the age of 50, leaving a void in the hearts of all his fans and music lovers. He was about to begin a comeback tour through a series of concerts in London.

Stephen Gately- The Sad Demise

Stephen Patrick David Gately is no more. It just can’t sink in. This young Irish pop singer, writer and actor, one of the two lead singers of the band Boyzone, breathed his last in his sleep on the 10th of October.

The news has come as a great shock to millions of his fans and friends.

He was in Majorca on a holiday with his lone partner Andy Cowles, whom he had married in London in 2006, in a civil Union.

Gately is believed to have been out for a few drinks. He came back. He slept. And never woke up again. The news of his demise has left Louis Walsh, Boyzone’s manager, devastated. He had met him just a week ago on an award function.

The other members of the band are distraught. No one could ever imagine such a thing would happen. Ronan Keating, the other lead singer of the band was very close to him. “He was like a brother to me”, said Ronan who has been shattered by the loss of his friend.

The other members of Boyzone – Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham – will be flying to Palma, Majorca tomorrow.

Boyzone was formed in 1993. Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham, were the other members of the band. Gately and Ronan were the two lead singers in most of the songs.

All their albums hit no one in UK. The third album was a roaring success internationally. Kately’s ‘Key to my life’, and ‘Love me for a reason’… made him a sensation in the world of pop music.

To the utter dismay of Boyzone fans the band broke up in 2000. Gately than released his Top 10 solo album. He joined the band once again in 2008, for a series of recordings and concerts.

Their comeback tour was announced last November.

Kandi Burruss’ fiance killed

Kandi Burruss was left devastated when she heard the news of her fiancé, Ashley Jewels fatal brawl at the Body Tap club in Atlanta.

He was probably caught in an argument with Frederick Richardson, an employee of The Strip Club, who was often charged for manhandling.

During the argument, Ashley Jewels received a severe blow on his head. He was immediately shifted to the Piedmont Hospital where he breathed his last.

Kandi Burruss, who was recently cast in ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’, a hit reality show, is trying to cope up with his shocking death.

Burruss’s message on her twitter page read- “I could never in a million years imagine this happening. Please pray for A.J’s children…that are who I am the most concerned for. I am about to give my swollen eyes some rest now. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their prayers.”

In spite of her mother’s disagreement, Burruss, an award winning lyricist and singer had a very steady relationship with Jewel.

Although the motive for the brawl is not known, investigations are still on.

Bruce Springsteen at Giants Stadium

Bruce Springsteen immortalized Giants stadium by rendering his musical rites to a place to be demolished soon. The old stadium is no more needed and the new stadium stands tall next to it. In defiance of destruction, Springsteen rendered a new song- “Bring on your wrecking ball”, a song specially written for the occasion.

Springsteen will hold a series of five concerts at the Giants Stadium, perhaps the last ever at this place. In his first performance, his songs “Seeds” and “Into the Fire”, reiterated sadness but his number “Hungry Heart” was one of the feel good moments, while his fans cheered, he ran around the floor, hugging and enjoying with his friends. He sang all the songs which have been landmarks in his album.

Having performed nineteen times at Giants Stadium, New Jersey, he felt like being back at home in his backyard. On the chilly night of 30th September, sixty year old Springsteen sang to his heart’s content and shouted to the crowd- “It’s too cold to stop!”

Springsteen made this an evening to remember for all his enthralled audience as the concert lasted for fifty-five minutes, originally scheduled for thirty nine minutes.

This show once again established him to be a charismatic singer.
